China is concerned about the current tense situation on the Korean Peninsula, spokesperson for Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hua Chunying said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Hua Chunying made the comments when asked about China's reaction towards reports of an unsuccessful DPRK missile test on Wednesday morning.

"It is a touch and go situation so we urge relevant parties to exercise calmness and restraint and avoid mutual provocations and adventurous actions," Hua said.

"The Korean nuclear issue has a very complex dynamic and background. It's because of the conflict between DPRK and the US, because of the deep hostility and the lack of mutual trust between both sides. So those who tied the knots should be the ones to untie them. Any unilateral action for selfish interest will only complicate the situation." Hua said.

The suspension-for-suspension proposal and parallel-track approach put forward by the Chinese side are right, fair and reasonable plans to help us break out of the current dilemma, Hua added.

The DPRK carried out an unsuccessful missile test near the Wonsan Air Base on the country's east coast on Wednesday morning, South Korea's Defense Ministry said in a brief statement.
