Two China Eastern Airlines planes avoided a runway collision at Shanghai's Hongqiao airport on Tuesday.
A preliminary investigation by the Civil Aviation Administration of China has found that the incident was caused by misdirections from the control tower.
A China Eastern Airbus A320 bound for Tianjin was accelerating for takeoff when the pilot spotted another plane crossing the runway. The pilot decided they would not be able to bring the aircraft to a stop to avoid a collision and instead continued to take off and fly over the other aircraft.
The A320 Airbus then continued to Tianjin where it landed safely over an hour later. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
