Protests against Chinese businessmen broke out in Bogota, capital of Colombia recently. Local traders accused overseas Chinese of seizing their business opportunities and threatening their livelihood.
At the same time, Colombia authorities arrested 14 Chinese men on account of goods smuggling, tax evasion and over staying.
The Chinese Embassy in Colombia responded immediately with the ambassador and political counselor expressing their dissatisfaction.
They ask local authorities to take efficient measurement of the safety and rights of the Chinese citizens. Currently, arrested Chinese had been released.
The Chinese Embassy says they will enhance their internal coordination to protect the rights of Chinese businessmen.
Local Colombian authorities also say they will provide some consulting services on related laws and policies for Chinese doing business there.
