The Association of Thai Travel Agents will open roadshows in China's major cities from later this month as part of a high-season tourism campaign.

In cooperation with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, ATTA's roadshows will be held in Chengdu City and Chongqing City later this month, followed by another one in Guangzhou City next month, ATTA president Charoen Wang-ananond said on Friday.

However, he said the number of Chinese visitors to Thailand would drop during this year's fourth quarter, beginning in October, but would rebound in next years' first quarter, beginning in January.

According to Kasikorn Bank Research Center's statement issued recently, an estimated 9 million Chinese mainland tourists would visit Thailand throughout this year, accounting for a 13.4 percent rise from last year.

Many Chinese tourists are known to prefer tropical seaside resorts such as Pattaya, Phuket and Koh Samui island, among other destinations.
