The Shanghai Sharks shellacked defending champions the Guangsha Lions 99-77 at home in the Chinese Basketball Association on Monday, extending their winning streak to seven games and moving to the top of the standings.
Sun Minghui moved Guangsha in front 16-15 with a three-pointer.
After Shanghai fell further behind, Li Hongquan connected from beyond the arc to cut the deficit to two.
The Lions surrendered the lead later in the first quarter, but Zhao Yanhao drilled a three to tie the score at 28-28.
Kenneth Lofton spun into the lane and converted a layup to put the Sharks ahead 39-36 in the second period. The American big man followed by dishing to Wang Zhelin for a two-handed dunk. And when Brandon Goodwin drilled a three-pointer, Shanghai stretched its advantage into double figures.
Guangsha tried to mount a comeback in the third quarter, as Zhao's layup trimmed the margin to nine. The hosts would not be denied, however, with six players scoring in double figures.
The 22-point thrashing snapped the visiting side's eight-game winning streak, leaving the Sharks level with the Lions at the top of the standings with nine wins and two losses, but ahead on tiebreakers following a dominant victory.
