Twenty-four-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic of Serbia will return to action at the Shanghai Masters in east China's Shanghai Municipality for his first tournament since losing to Carlos Alcaraz of Spain at the U.S. Open in early September.
Djokovic reached the men's singles final in Shanghai last year, but lost to Jannik Sinner of Italy in straight sets. He would like a rematch against the World No. 2.
"I'd love to have a chance to play Jannik (Sinner)," Djokovic said. "That means that I'll reach the semi-finals, which would be great. We'll see. Obviously, I mean, he's been winning most of the matches that we've played against each other lately. And we played finals last year here. It was a good match. So hopefully, I get my chance again."
As the No. 4 seed of the tournament, the 38-year-old Serbian will face Martin Cilic of Croatia in his first match. Second-seeded Sinner will play Daniel Altmaier of Croatia in his opener.
