China's first major bobsleigh and luge race track has been completed for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, the Beijing Major Projects Construction Headquarters Office confirmed on Tuesday.
According to the construction plan, the National Sliding Center will meet the requirements of the test event set for June 2020.
The next step is the construction of the technical system of the race track, including the ammonia refrigeration and ice-making systems.
The ice-making system will be the focus of the follow-up construction of the track, and also key to meeting the conditions of the race.
Bobsleigh and luge are the fastest sports in the Winter Olympics, known as "F1 on Snow." Marked by high speed, great difficulty and strong specialty in terms of the skills required, it is one of the most prestigious and headlining events in the Winter Olympic Games.
The National Sliding Center is located on the southwest side of Beijing's Yanqing district. The track is about 1.9 kilometers long and the vertical drop is more than 120 meters.
After the completion of the track, it will become the world's 17th, Asia's 3rd and China's first bobsleigh and luge track.
During the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, the National Sliding Center will host bobsleigh, skeleton and luge events.
