The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics organizing committee has unveiled its Legacy Plan on the day of the Chinese Lantern Festival.

The plan is centered on inspiring young people, motivating them with the Olympic spirit, encouraging millions to embrace winter sports and promoting social progress through the events.

The Games will get underway in three years' time and will focus on seven themes: sports, society, economy, culture, environment, urban development and regional development.

Eleven stadiums from the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics will be reused with a bigger focus on environmental protection and improvement, promoting a low-carbon economy.

Beijing will be the first city to have hosted both editions of the event as China hopes to promote the country's culture and the Olympic values to future generations.

While addressing the media, Zhao Wei, culture and activity director of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (BOCWOG), said, "The focus of our cultural legacy will be put on teenagers. We will host various cultural activities to draw more teenagers to participate in our preparation work for the Winter Games.

"For example, 15 million primary and secondary school students around the country have joined the collections of designs for the Olympic mascot, with more than 300 thousand children already submitting their work. It can be expected that the mascot will demonstrate their creative minds and also help them gain a deeper understanding of the Olympic values," he said.
