The "United as One World, Voices of Peace" film concert, presented by China Media Group (CMG), was held at New York's Lincoln Center on Tuesday, as part of commemorations honoring the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the founding of the United Nations.
Melissa Fleming, UN under-secretary-general for global communications, congratulated the successful hosting of the film concert. In a video message, she said music has a unique power to comfort the soul and transcend linguistic and cultural differences to connect people.
In his video address, CMG President Shen Haixiong said that culture knows no borders, and emotions transcend time and space.
"Let us revisit the founding mission of the United Nations, take history as a mirror, cherish peace, and jointly advance global modernization to build a community with a shared future for humanity," Shen said.
Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng, also speaking via video link, stressed the need to always bear in mind the painful lessons of World War II and the original aspiration to "save succeeding generations from the scourge of war."
"We need to adhere to resolving differences and disputes through dialogue and consultation, resolutely say no to warmongering, hegemonism and bullying, and jointly build a common home of peace and amity," he said.
Stephen Orlins, president of the National Committee of U.S.-China Relations, told CGTN in an interview that hosting the film concert is one of the most remarkable ways to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. Given the current landscape, Orlins expressed hope that the event would build bridges that transcend civilizations and advocate for peace.
The concert featured internationally acclaimed piano virtuoso Lang Lang, violinist Randall Goosby, and vocalists Kameron Lopreore, Efraín Solís, and William Guanbo Su, along with the New York International Symphony Orchestra and Choir, the United Nations Symphony Orchestra and United Nations Singers.
