The Inner Mongolia autonomous region has finished constructing a critical power transmission line expected to enhance the overall energy supply capacity, according to local authorities.

The Bayankhangai-Shengli 500-kilovolt transmission project became fully connected on May 22. It is a key initiative outlined in the national 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for power development and a crucial support project for transmitting clean electricity.

Spanning 183.32 kilometers across Xiliin Gol, the 475 million yuan ($66 million) infrastructure features 437 transmission towers.

Built by State Grid Inner Mongolia Eastern Electric Power, the line links the Bayankhangai Substation in Sonid Left Banner to the Shengli Substation in Xiliinhot.

It will significantly improve the efficiency of delivering clean power and meet the grid connection demand for an additional 1 million kilowatts of wind power capacity.

In related developments, Inner Mongolia has transmitted over 714.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity via its eight UHV transmission corridors as of May 21.

This massive volume equals the annual electricity consumption of approximately 270 million households. It represents the equivalent conversion of over 240 million metric tons of standard coal, helping reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 695 million tons.
