Nearly 10,000 audience members attended a concert of virtual singers, including famous Chinese virtual idol Luo Tianyi and Japanese pop star Hatsune Miku, in Shanghai on Friday night.

Held by Bilibili, a Chinese teenager web-culture community and video-sharing website, the concert featured more than 10 popular virtual singers from China and Japan. Luo Tianyi and Hatsune Miku sang more than five singles each, some of them performed in duo or a choir with other singers. Each song was accompanied by choreography.

The climax of the event was when Luo Tianyi and Hatsune Miku performed together on stage to sing "B With U" together in an encore session, and "One More Drink," a famous song on Bilibili, together with 22 and 33, two virtual personas of the website.

The three-and-a-half-hour-long concert adopted technologies including visual release and Vsinger Live, allowing virtual singers and performers to give vivid performances, and audience members to see their movements, clothing, facial expressions and even interact with their digital idols.

Having made her debut in 2007, Hatsune Miku is a 16-year-old character persona developed by Crypton Future Media, using Yamaha Corporation's voice synthesizer software.

Luo Tianyi is a similar teenage persona developed by the Yamaha Corporation in collaboration with Shanghai HENIAN Information Technology Co., Ltd. in 2012. Considered the most successful virtual idol in China, Luo seeks innovation in music performing in recent years. In 2016, she attended the Hunan TV’s Xiaonian Spring Festival Gala, a popular TV show among youngsters. Last year, she sang "Wishing We Last Forever," a song with lyrics from an ancient poem, with Peking opera artist Wang Peiyu in a variety show by China Central Television (CCTV). Early this year, she co-performed in a creative concert together with renowned pianist Lang Lang.
