China's top political advisor Wang Yang on Friday visited a city in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region where celebrations for the region's 60th anniversary are in full swing.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, led a division of a central delegation to Guyuan.

They visited an industrial park for poverty alleviation, a museum dedicated to the history of the Long March, rural families, and a polytechnic college, where they interacted with locals to learn about their work and life.

Attending a symposium with people in Guyuan, Wang said: "The sea-changes in Guyuan are a microcosm of Ningxia's extraordinary achievements over the past six decades, testifying to the success of the Party's policies concerning ethnic groups and the system of regional ethnic autonomy."

He called for effort to maintain good work in ethnic and religious affairs and use the poverty relief campaign as an initiative to lead new rounds of social and economic development while strengthening the protection of ecology and environment.

Four other divisions of the central delegation - all led by senior officials - visited other areas of Ningxia on Friday.

The delegation arrived in Ningxia on Wednesday for the anniversary celebrations, and left for Beijing after Friday's visits.
