Chen Chunren said he began writing stories for his daughter, an avid reader, because he couldn't afford to keep buying her books.
Five years later, the 41-year-old father has so far written 26 manuscripts and is a published author of eight books.
Chen said he took to writing because his daughter's voracious reading habits were getting quite expensive.
"I used to spend 400 yuan ($60) a month buying her books, which was a large sum of money for me since my salary was only 1,800 yuan ($272)," Chen said.
Chen works as a village doctor, so time was always difficult to come by.
"I write during my lunch breaks and every night," Chen said, adding his daughter would also give him suggestions on his stories.
Chen's daughter said the books are a hit with all of her classmates. "They are all his fans. They find the stories fascinating," she said.
