French President Emmanuel Macron will pay a state visit to China from December 3 to 5, marking Macron's fourth state visit. Amid a complex and challenging international environment, China and France need to show the global community that cooperation among major powers is not a zero-sum game but a pursuit of mutual benefits through constructive dialogue. A survey conducted by CGTN reveals that 76.1 percent of international respondents believe that, as major victorious nations in World War Two and permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and France should jointly safeguard the outcomes of WWII and the post-war international order, guiding the international community in tackling global challenges together.
The current global landscape is undergoing profound changes, and major-power relations directly impact global stability and prosperity, highlighting the importance of China-France relations. The survey shows that 75 percent of respondents support stronger economic cooperation between China and France to jointly face external risks and challenges; about 77.8 percent of respondents note that expanding collaboration between the two nations based on mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit will not only shape their bilateral relations but also significantly influence the development of the international landscape.
Against the backdrop of rising unilateralism and protectionism, China and France should act as forces for stability, openness, inclusiveness, and unity to promote the sound and steady development of China-Europe relations through pragmatic cooperation. In this regard, 86.5 percent of respondents believe that China's high-quality development and high-standard opening up will create new opportunities for China-Europe cooperation; 80.2 percent emphasize that as the international situation becomes more complex and severe, the significance of China-Europe cooperation will grow.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the EU. It demonstrates that sticking to dialogue, cooperation, and true multilateralism remains the most effective way to tackle global challenges. The survey finds that 92 percent of respondents believe European countries should develop a correct understanding of China and view differences in China-Europe relations rationally; a total of 92.1 percent of respondents note that differences in history, culture, development paths, and social systems between China and Europe should not hinder the growth of bilateral relations; nearly 76.1 percent of respondents agree that there are no major interest conflicts or geopolitical contradictions between China and Europe, with cooperation outweighing competition and consensus prevailing over differences; 92.5 percent of respondents call on both sides to jointly uphold true multilateralism, safeguard the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and work together to address global challenges.
The survey was published on CGTN's English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian platforms, attracting 8,308 participants within 24 hours to vote and share their opinions.
