Violence in Hong Kong is completely different from anti-racism protests in the United States, China's foreign ministry said on Monday.

In terms of what happened in Hong Kong, it is a very small number of people from home, together with foreign forces, which plotted and organized the radical, violent and illegal activities trying to have a hand in Hong Kong affairs, while protests across the U.S. was due to the death of unarmed black man George Floyd, spokesperson Zhao Lijian said at a daily briefing in Beijing.

While the U.S. side glorifies "Hong Kong independence" and "black terror" created by violent extremists "hero", it has also called the thousands who joined in protests against Floyd's death "thugs," said Zhao.

"This is totally a double standard," Zhao underscored.

Meanwhile, Robert O'Brien, the U.S. president's national security adviser, threw mud at China, suggesting it is among the nations which take advantage of divisions over race.

Zhao rebuked O'Brien's claim as "groundless", urging U.S. politicians to mind their own business.

China always follows the principle of non-interference in others' internal affairs, Zhao said.
