The United States has been pursuing a policy of economic sanctions and diplomatic isolation against the Venezuelan government, in support of the opposition leader Juan Guaido.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Tuesday strongly condemned a White House decision to freeze all Venezuelan state-owned assets in the United States.

"The U.S. government frustrated by the courage and resistance of the Bolivarian Revolution is now cowardly resorting to the embargo of Venezuelan assets," Diaz-Canel said via Twitter.

Cuba's president also expressed his solidarity for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his supporters.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday issued an executive order that states "all property and interests in property of the government of Venezuela that are in the United States ... are blocked and may not be transferred, paid, exported, withdrawn, or otherwise dealt with."

The United States has been pursuing a policy of economic sanctions and diplomatic isolation against the Venezuelan government, in support of the opposition leader Juan Guaido.

The Trump administration recognized Guaido as Venezuela's "interim president" on Jan. 23, days after Nicholas Maduro was inaugurated for a second term.
