"While taking the opportunity to sign the Memorandum of Understanding on joint construction of the Belt and Road between China and Cote d'Ivoire, the two countries agreed to enhance their level of cooperation in all aspects," Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said when meeting with his Cote d'Ivoire counterpart Marcel Amon-Tanoh on Tuesday in Beijing.

Marcel Amon-Tanoh is in Beijing accompanying Cote d'Ivoire's President Alassane Ouattara on a state visit to China and will attend the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

During the meeting, Wang Yi said that the two countries should further strengthen cooperation in international affairs and safeguard the common interests of African and other developing countries.

Tanoh said the long-term friendship between Cote d'Ivoire and China serves as an example for cooperation between Africa and China.

He said Cote d'Ivoire attaches importance to China's ever growing significance in the international arena, and highly appreciates the concept of "creating a community with shared future for the mankind" as raised by President Xi Jinping.

Tanoh also thanked China for its help and support in Cote d'Ivoire's development all these years, saying his country is willing to seize the opportunity provided by the Belt and Road Initiative, deepen collaboration with China in different fields, and push forward the creation of a community with shared future between China and Africa.

The two sides also agreed to jointly push for the full success of the upcoming 2018 FOCAC Beijing summit and inject strong impetus into the development of China-Africa comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
