A wild monkey in Southwest China hitchhiked on a car seemingly to beg for food but only got a free ride.
Wang Penghe, an electric power troubleshooter in Ganzi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province is blocked by the monkey when driving a car on his patrol way. The monkey pops up and rides on the hood of the car, scratching its head. "I was scared," said Wang, noting that it seems to beg for food, the Beijing News reported Saturday.
"I wanted to get off to give food to it but I was afraid I'd hurt it or it'd hurt me," said Wang.
Although the monkey failed to get any food, it got a free ride for several hundred meters. According to the video, the monkey on the hood with its back forwards seems scared but curious that it keeps looking around at passing cars.
The video has made the rounds on social media.
"Monkey Brother, are you hitchhiking to obtain Buddhist scriptures?" wrote a netizen, joking the monkey is the character in Journey to the West.
"Bro, the Monkey year passed and now is the the Year of the Pig. Ask your Pig bro for the food instead," wrote another netizen.
