A parent drew complaints at a school in China on Monday for picking up their child in a pricey sports car.
Screenshots from a class chat group on WeChat show the child's teacher criticizing the parent for showing up at the school with the luxury vehicle.
"It creates a sense of class comparison among kids," the teacher said.
Other parents also chimed in, telling the parent not to be so flashy and suggesting they purchase another, more modest vehicle for pick-ups.
The parent in question struck back at the accusations.
"I worked hard to earn my money, fair and square. What's wrong with wanting to provide the best for my child?" the parent wrote.
The comment saw the parent kicked out of the chat group, to which they replied, "What's wrong with you?"
The story caught on quickly on social media, where it sparked discussions about China's rising wealth gap.
"It's the parents that cannot stand social pressures, not the kids," wrote Weibo user "Tangzixi."
