On Sunday, the Canadian frigate HMCS Ottawa transited the Taiwan Straits and publicly hyped the transition. The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army organized naval and air forces to monitor and track the Canadian vessel's passage, effectively responding and handling the situation, Senior Captain Li Xi, spokesperson for the Eastern Theater Command of the PLA, said in a statement on Monday.
The Canadian side's remarks distort legal principles and confuse the public, with their actions deliberately provoking disruption and undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits. The Chinese PLA forces remain on high alert at all times and will resolutely counter any threats and provocations.
AFP reported that the Royal Canadian Navy's Halifax-class frigate HMCS Ottawa sailed through the Taiwan Straits on Sunday, citing a statement from Taiwan's so-called external affairs authority.
