Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge handles over 100 million passenger trips since opening in 2018

The Zhuhai land port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has handled over 100 million inbound and outbound passenger trips as of January 6, 2026, since the mega project opened to traffic in October 2018.

The bridge has significantly improved regional connectivity, cutting driving time between Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao from about three hours to roughly 45 minutes. As exchanges among residents of the three regions have picked up in recent years, traveler numbers through the Zhuhai port have risen sharply.

Official data shows that it took more than five years for cumulative passenger flows to reach the first 50 million trips. The next 50 million trips, however, were recorded in just around one year and eight months.

The upward trend continued in 2025, when passenger traffic through the port reached 31.34 million trips, surpassing 30 million in a single calendar year for the first time. The figure was more than 140 percent higher than in 2019, underscoring the growing intensity of movement across the bridge.
