(ECNS) -- This month marks the third anniversary of the Henan (China) -Cambodia-ASEAN "Air Silk Road" initiative, with the direct flight route between Zhengzhou City and Phnom Penh hailed as a star route between China and Cambodia.
Zhan David, president of the Hong Kong-Henan Fellowship and vice chairman and CEO of Air Cambodia, told China News Service that Phnom Penh, as one of the dual hubs, currently supports over 110 weekly flights connecting travelers from Zhengzhou to ASEAN cities such as Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City.
The Zhengzhou-Phnom Penh route links Central Asia and Northeast Asia with southern destinations across Southeast Asia, facilitating Asian cultural exchanges and economic development.
Data from Zhengzhou Customs shows that ASEAN is now Henan's largest trading partner. In the first quarter of 2025, trade between Henan and ASEAN surpassed 25.4 billion yuan (about $3.5 billion). Exchanged goods range from electromechanical products to agricultural products.
The Henan-Cambodia-ASEAN "Air Silk Road" resumed operation in April 2022, designed to accommodate both passengers and cargo, with hubs established both in Cambodia's Phnom Penh and central China's Zhengzhou City.
In May 2023, Air Cambodia established its China headquarters in the Zhengzhou Airport Economic Zone, becoming the first foreign airline to set up its China regional base in Henan.
