The China Forum on International Legal Cooperation, which was held from Sunday to Monday in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, has issued a statement championing legal cooperation to facilitate the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

All parties participating in the BRI should further legal cooperation in ensuring cybersecurity, fighting transnational crimes, drug trafficking, terrorism, separatism and extremism, and enhancing joint law enforcement and public security, according to the document.

The participating parties need to fulfill bilateral and multilateral trade agreements and establish binding mechanisms for honoring international agreements, it said.

The statement also proposed enhancing international cooperation on intellectual property protection, regulating investment conduct of enterprises and improving legal systems and mechanism development for anti-corruption work.

Sponsored by the China Law Society, the forum saw the participation of around 400 representatives from China and over 40 other countries along the Belt and Road and four international organizations.
