Beijing Municipality has re-opened a large historic building complex to the public near the Forbidden City on the central axis of Beijing after restorations complete.
A group of royal halls built in 1749 during the reign of Qing Emperor Qianlong, Shouhuang Palace was used for emperors to honor their imperial ancestors in the Ming and the Qing dynasties.
The re-opened palace buildings stand in the ancient imperial garden of Jingshan Park on Beijing's central axis, 2km to the north of Tian'anmen Square.
The palace has been used as Beijing Youth Center since 1956. To preserve its ancient cultural heritage, municipal authorities decided to return the historic complex to Jingshan Park at the end of 2013 and began repairing the palace in 2016.
