(ECNS) -- Chinese national Chen Zhi, head of a major cross-border gambling and telecom fraud criminal group, was repatriated from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to China on Wednesday in an operation conducted by China's Ministry of Public Security, the ministry announced.
The operation marks another major achievement in law enforcement cooperation between China and Cambodia, according to the Ministry.
Investigations show that the criminal group led by Chen Zhi is suspected of multiple offenses, including operating casinos, fraud, illegal business operations, and concealing and disguising proceeds of crime. Chen has been detained in accordance with the law, and related cases are under further investigation.
An official with the ministry said public security authorities will soon issue public wanted notices for the first group of key members of the Chen Zhi criminal group and will spare no effort to apprehend fugitives.
The official urged suspects involved to immediately cease their illegal activities, turn themselves in as soon as possible, and seek lenient treatment.
