(ECNS) -- China Eastern Airlines on Sunday resumed its Shanghai–Delhi passenger route, becoming the first Chinese carrier to restart China-India flights in 2025 after a five-year suspension.

At 1 p.m. local time, Flight MU563 departed from Shanghai Pudong International Airport carrying 248 passengers to New Delhi, marking the official relaunch of the "China-India route." The inaugural flight recorded a seat occupancy rate exceeding 95%.

According to the airline, the route will operate three times weekly, using an Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft. Connecting two major economic hubs, it is regarded as one of the most strategically significant air links between China and India.

China Eastern said it plans to increase flight frequency in response to market demand, and will resume the Kunming–Kolkata service and launch a new Shanghai Pudong–Mumbai route.

Leveraging its extensive hub operations and convenient transfer services at Shanghai Pudong Airport, passengers arriving in China can easily connect to major domestic cities or international destinations such as North America, Japan, and South Korea. Meanwhile, India's Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi also offers strong connectivity, enabling travelers to access major Indian cities as well as destinations across South Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.
