(ECNS) -- Paris prosecutors announced on Wednesday that five new suspects, including a key suspect, were arrested in connection with the Louvre jewel heist, bringing the total number of arrests to seven, according to BBC reports.
Among the five, the main suspect was thought to be directly involved in the theft.
Two suspects previously detained had "partially recognised" their involvement in the theft. They face charges of organized group theft and criminal conspiracy.
Police launched a raid on Wednesday night but have yet to locate the stolen jewelry.
The Louvre suffered a major theft on an October morning, when eight pieces of royal jewelry and diamonds were stolen from the museum's Gallery of Apollo, which houses France's royal jewelry collection. It is reported that the stolen jewels are valued at 88 million euros.
