(ECNS) -- Chinese troops departed Wednesday from military ports in Zhanjiang, Sanya and Hong Kong en route to Malaysia for the sixth joint exercise between the two nations, scheduled to begin later this month.
From Oct. 15 to 23, Chinese and Malaysian armed forces will conduct the "Peace and Friendship 2025" joint exercise in Malaysia and nearby waters.
At around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, the departure ceremony began to the sound of the national anthem. Over 700 personnel from the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Southern Theater Command, comprising the army, navy, air force, the PLA Hong Kong Garrison, and joint logistics units, departed in formation.
The exercise, themed "Humanitarian Relief, Disaster Reduction, and Maritime Security," will invite observers from other ASEAN countries. China and Malaysia plan to deploy over 1,000 personnel and more than 500 pieces of equipment, including wheeled vehicles, surface vessels, helicopters, unmanned systems, and other types of weaponry.
This drill will be the sixth joint exercise of the "Peace and Friendship" series. It aims to deepen practical cooperation between the militaries of China and Southeast Asian countries, enhancing their capability to address non-traditional security threats and safeguard regional peace and stability.
