(ECNS) -- The Suizhong-Panjin section of the Beijing-Harbin Expressway, China's first long-distance 10-lane expressway, was fully opened to traffic on Saturday after renovation.
As a key transportation artery in Liaoning Province and the entire northeast China, the originally six-lane Suizhong - Panjin section had been in operation for 22 years.
Construction on the renovation project began in August 2022, starting at the Jiumenkou Tunnel in Suizhong County, Liaoning Province.
The expressway stretches 238.04 kilometers. In the project, 222.08 kilometers of mainline were reconstructed, with a design speed of 120 km per hour.
The Beijing–Harbin Expressway is the first of seven radial expressways from the capital in China's National Expressway Network. Beginning in Beijing and passing through Shenyang and Changchun before terminating in Harbin, it is a major highway artery for northeast China and an important passage through the Shanhai Pass, holding a significant place in both the national and regional road networks.
