(ECNS) -- Xie Mengwei, the actor who played the leading role in the well-known Chinese anti-Japanese aggression drama Little Soldier Zhang Ga, has been detained for seven days for wearing a police uniform during a livestreaming selling event.
The Gengma Dai and Wa Autonomous County Public Security Bureau in Yunnan Province received a report last Wednesday, requesting police to investigate a livestream. Xie was then found selling goods in a police uniform.
Some followers questioned whether it is lawful to wear a police uniform, but Xie refuted the question and accused the questioner of riding on his popularity for clout.
"Cyberspace is not a lawless domain. All netizens should use the internet in a civilized way and in accordance with the law and work together to foster a clean and positive internet environment," stated a notice released by the police. It reminded the public that insignia, uniform, equipment, and credentials are exclusively for official use in China, and no individuals or organizations are allowed to possess or use them without authorization.
On Sept. 13, Xie apologized for his behavior, adding that the police uniform he wore was a costume for his drama.
Xie, born in Xiongxian County, Baoding City, Hebei Province on March 4, 1989, is an actor and director in the Chinese Mainland. In 2003, he was well known to the audience for his role as the hero Zhang Ga in the TV series Little Soldier Zhang Ga.
