(ECNS) — An international overland freight route from South China to Vietnam's capital was officially launched on Wednesday, marking a significant step forward in cross-border transport facilitation between the two countries.

At 10:40 a.m., convoys loaded with electronic components, fresh vegetables, and daily necessities departed simultaneously from Nanning, capital city of Guangxi, and Kunming, capital city of Yunnan, bound for Hanoi, capital of Vietnam. This marks the first entry of Chinese freight vehicles to Vietnam under the Greater Mekong Subregion Cross-Border Transport Facilitation Agreement (CBTA).

The service adopts a "one container to the end, one vehicle to the end" model, highlighting the advantages of point-to-point, high-efficiency, and low-turnover road transport.

Compared with traditional transportation, each truck on the new route can save about one day in delivery time and reduce logistics costs by 800 to 1,000 yuan (approximately $110 to $140).

The new direct route is expected to significantly enhance transport efficiency and boost economic and trade exchanges between China and Vietnam.
