(ECNS) -- China will impose export controls on 25 rare metal products and related technologies starting from Tuesday, according to a joint statement from the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) and the General Administration of Customs.

The policy applies to minerals related to tungsten, tellurium, bismuth, molybdenum, and indium. However, exports that comply with relevant regulations will be permitted.

Authorities have emphasized that export controls on tungsten and related materials align with common international practices.

Responding to media inquiries, an MOC spokesperson stated that the measure aims to better safeguard China’s national security and interests while ensuring compliance with non-proliferation and other international commitments as a leading global producer and exporter.

China has long implemented export controls on specific items in accordance with the law and in line with national security and interest considerations, the spokesperson said.

The latest move underscores China’s holistic approach to balancing development and security while also safeguarding the stability of global industrial and supply chains, the spokesperson added.
