This year's NATO summit will be held in Madrid from June 29-30 with the Japanese prime minister invited to attend for the first time.

It is safe to conclude that NATO, under the leadership of the United States, is rallying its European and Asian allies against China, which it views as the main challenger to its hegemony. According to the organization's new Strategic Concept, NATO will seek to minimize international cooperation with China in infrastructure construction and supply chains via the NATO framework. For example, the U.S. could update NATO's security standards on 5G telecommunication devices, investigate NATO members' reliance upon China's supplies in their defense devices, and establish a NATO-EU dialogue mechanism to evaluate the "threat" Chinese investments pose.

It will also seek to strengthen cooperation between its European and Asian allies, so as to "block" China's development space. For example, it may establish NATO contact offices in Tokyo or Seoul, so that the U.S.' two Asian allies can work together in alignment with the U.S. strategy to contain China.

It is even proposed that the NATO Defense College establish "Centres of Excellence" in the "Indo-Pacific" region, so as to strengthen mutual understanding and sell its ideas to the region.

It might also make use of existing mechanisms to launch a "technological war" against China. For example, it could cooperate with mechanisms such as AUKUS and Quad to try and set the technological standards for artificial intelligence, chips, and quantum computing. The AUKUS cooperation and Quad framework both involve much technological cooperation content, which makes it possible for NATO to build a high wall against China in the high-tech sector.

All of these are actually attempts to mobilize resources to bring down an Iron Curtain in Asia that serves the U.S. hegemony. The potential harm of NATO's strategic adjustment is rather big, but it should be noted that NATO as a military organization has its inner limitations, and there are all kinds of conflicts between the U.S. and the European Union and among European countries.
