China's national observatory on Monday renewed a blue alert for Typhoon Haishen, which is expected to generate strong winds affecting parts of eastern and northern China's coastal areas.

The super typhoon, the 10th this year, made landfall in coastal areas of the Republic of Korea at around 7:30 a.m. Monday, producing wind gusts of 144 km per hour at its center, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said.

The NMC forecast the typhoon to move northward at a speed of 40-50 km per hour and gradually weaken.

From Monday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon, gales are expected to hit parts of the Bohai Sea, the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea and coastal regions of the Liaodong Peninsula, the Shandong Peninsula as well as Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces.

The NMC has advised people and vessels in at-risk areas to shelter from winds.

Northeast China's Jilin Province has prepared emergency supplies worth over 130 million yuan (about 18.94 million U.S. dollars) and organized 70 warehouses stocked with emergency supplies across the province.

Jilin has also set up more than 1,900 emergency response and rescue teams and a special fund of 230 million yuan for disaster relief.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow and blue. Enditem
