The Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Saturday expressed firmed opposition and strong condemnation on the so-called U.S. sanctions against heads of Chinese government agencies responsible for Hong Kong affairs and officials of the HKSAR.

Director of the liaison office Luo Huining, who is on the sanction list published by the U.S. Department of Treasury, said on Saturday that the so-called U.S. sanctions on him is futile as he has no assets abroad.

"Being listed by the United States on the sanctions list just shows that I have done what I should do for my country and Hong Kong. I don't have a penny of asset abroad. Isn't it a waste of effort to impose 'sanctions'? " Luo said. "Of course, I can send 100 U.S. dollars to Mr. Trump for him to freeze."

A spokesperson for the office said in a statement that China "will never be afraid of any bullying," and stressed that if the United States thinks that the so-called sanctions can make Chinese people compromise and concede, it is in vain and what it did is an anachronism and miscalculation.

China enacted and promulgated the Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the HKSAR to fill the loopholes in Hong Kong's system of safeguarding national security, which effectively safeguarded Hong Kong's social order, brought people's lives back on track and restored the rule of law and justice, marking a historic turning point in Hong Kong from chaos to stability, the spokesperson said.

However, since the promulgation of the law, some U.S. politicians have been interfering in China's internal affairs and most recently using the absurd excuse of "restricting Hong Kong's political freedom" to impose so-called sanctions on Chinese officials, which violated the basic norms of international laws, the spokesperson said.

What U.S. politicians care about is not the rights and freedom of Hong Kong people but the freedom of those advocating "Hong Kong independence" to endanger China's national security, the freedom of those engaged in violent activities to destroy the bottom line of Hong Kong's rule of law, and the freedom of those adopting "burn with us" tactics to mess up Hong Kong and harm the interests of Hong Kong people, the spokesperson said.

The malicious intention of U.S. politicians to back up anti-China activists has been clearly exposed, the spokesperson said.

China has reiterated its position that Hong Kong affairs are China's internal affairs and other countries have no right to interfere, the spokesperson said, adding that the latest so-called U.S. sanctions came as another interference in Hong Kong affairs after the passage of the so-called "Hong Kong Autonomy Act" and exposed its intention of undermining "one country, two systems" and containing China's development.

China is different from what it was like over 100 years ago and Chinese people will not be scared by intimidation and threats, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson emphasized that the Chinese government is rock-firm in safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests, in implementing the "one country, two systems" principle, and in opposing any external interference in Hong Kong affairs.

The spokesperson said that nothing can change the trend of the times and urged some U.S. politicians to wake up to see the trend.

China's prosperity and development is unstoppable and the steady advance of "one country, two systems" is unshakable, no matter what interferences or extreme pressures the United States imposes, the spokesperson said.
