An ancient stone tablet with inscriptions was discovered Wednesday in north China's Hebei Province, according to local authorities.

Dating back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the tablet was unearthed in Dongfu Village of Longyao County by a villager named Li Mingshan when he was digging the foundation of his house for renovation.

Measuring 105 cm in length, 37 cm in width and 12 cm in thickness, the tablet has a 4-character inscription carved on one surface and another 4-word inscription on another side.

The stone tablet was from an ancient tomb whose owner was a local official during the ruling period of Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty, according to Wang Bo, a local history and culture expert.

Now, the tablet has been sent to the county's cultural relics protection department for display.
