Chinese authorities vowed to help migrant workers, particularly those from impoverished and epidemic-stricken areas, find jobs during the COVID-19 epidemic.

The employment of migrant workers and graduates has been affected by the epidemic, officials said at a press conference on Friday.

There were 290 million migrant workers in China as of 2019, among whom 75 million traveled to other provinces. Migrant workers suffer the most direct impact from the epidemic, said an official from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

Supportive measures have been taken to help this group, including arranging buses and trains to return them to work, opening online recruitment fairs and recruiting for anti-epidemic work.

Priority policies to help people living in poverty find jobs have also been launched. Severely impoverished and epidemic-stricken areas in Hubei will be prioritized.
