Local authorities in south China's Guangdong Province have increased the frequency of quality tests in the source areas of water supplied to the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions amid the coronavirus outbreak.

According to Guangdong Yuegang Water Supply Co., Ltd., which supplies water to Hong Kong, the monitoring of residual chlorine and biological toxicity has been added on the basis of regular monitoring indicators.

Since Jan. 23, the company's Dongshen water supply project has supplied nearly 5 million cubic meters of water to Hong Kong and cities of Shenzhen and Dongguan in Guangdong on a daily basis, with water quality passing tests.

The city of Heyuan has also closed the traffic in a reservoir that is an important source of water supplied to Hong Kong, docking 28 speedboats and over 30 ships as part of the epidemic prevention efforts.

Meanwhile, to ensure the safety of the water supply to Macao, the water affairs bureau in Zhuhai, has added equipment for detecting residual chlorine and microorganisms in main water sources.
