President Xi Jinping said over the weekend that China will work together with other countries and regions to promote economic globalization and make it more open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial to all people around the world.

In his congratulatory letter to the Fourth Understanding China Conference, which was held in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, Xi said China, as a contributor to and beneficiary of economic globalization, will remain steadfast in pursuing the path of peaceful development, as well as an opening-up strategy of mutual benefit that will continue to add momentum to an open world economy.

"Economic globalization is an irreversible trend, despite some difficulties it has encountered, and the interests and futures of different countries are becoming increasingly interconnected," Xi said in the letter.

Creating a better life is a common aspiration of people around the world, he said.

The letter was read out by Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, at the opening ceremony of the conference on Saturday.

In his keynote speech, Huang said China's gate would not close in the years ahead.

"Instead, China will open its gate wider to the outside world and play an active role in promoting the development of the world economy," Huang said, adding that after decades of development, the CPC has successfully led the Chinese people to the right development path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, which fits China's actual conditions and is in line with the wishes of the Chinese people.

Li Xi, Party secretary of Guangdong, said great changes have taken place there in the past 70 years.

Guangdong is a window of China's reform and opening-up and is expected to achieve a GDP of more than 10 trillion yuan ($1.43 trillion) this year, compared with last year's 9.73 trillion yuan, Li said.

David Aikman, chief representative of the World Economic Forum in China, said the process of China deepening reforms and opening its door wider will continue, and the country will serve as a major engine driving the world's economic development in coming years.

Andrei Ostrovsky, deputy director of Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said China is making important contributions to economic globalization.

"Through the Belt and Road Initiative, China has expanded investment and trade with Eastern Europe, middle and western Asia and southern and southeastern Asia, benefiting its own economic development and rest of the world," Ostrovsky said.
