Low-cost airline Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA will send a bill to Boeing in the United States for the cancelled flights of its 18 new Boeing 737 Max aircraft, online newspaper E24 reported Wednesday.

The company has cancelled flights of all of its 18 Boeing 737 Max aircraft after the recommendation of European aviation authorities, the report said.

"We are going to send the whole bill to Boeing. Norwegian should not have any financial burden for a brand-new aircraft not to be used in traffic," said Lasse Sandaker-Nielsen, communications manager of Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA.

"This is a completely new type of aircraft and one must expect that it can be used in commercial traffic without delays," he said.

Norwegian is in talks with Boeing, but the company will not say whether the U.S. manufacturer has accepted to cover all costs or not.

The cost of aircraft suspension is still uncertain and will be entirely dependent on how long the suspension will last, the company said.

Norwegian is trying to merge departures on routes where there are many flights every day, so that the passengers still get off, E24 wrote.
