The Academy Awards, or the Oscars, honoring the best in the filmmaking industry, will be handed out at a televised ceremony on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in the heart of Hollywood.

The Oscars turn 91 this year. The 91st Academy Awards, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will honor the best films of 2018 in 24 categories.

Here are the Oscars through the years in fun facts to help you get psyched for Hollywood's big night.

1929: The first Academy Awards

The first Academy Awards, which took place at a private dinner for about 270 people, were presented in 1929 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Los Angeles, U.S. state of California.

44 million U.S. dollars

This year the total cost of the Oscars ceremony is 44 million U.S. dollars and the cost of a 30-second commercial during the Oscars telecast is at least 2.6 million dollars, WalletHub, a Washington-based personal finance website, said in its 2019 Oscars Facts Report. The seating capacity of the Dolby Theatre on Oscar night is 3,300 seats.

The Oscar Statuette

Officially named the Academy Award of Merit, the statuette is better known by its nickname, Oscar. The Oscar statuette, the most recognized trophy in the world, stands 34 centimeters (13.5 inches) tall and weighs at a robust 3.5 kilograms (8.5 pounds). A total of 3,140 Oscar statuettes have been presented since the inception of the award, according to the official website.

The statuettes are solid bronze and plated in 24-karat gold. The current value of the Oscar statuette is 400 dollars, according to WalletHub.

The Red Carpet

The red carpet at the Dolby Theatre is 152.4 meters (500 feet) long, according to television network ABC, which has been the regular U.S. broadcaster of the Academy Awards since 1976. The 16,500-square-foot red carpet costs 24,700 dollars, which requires 900 hours to install for a crew of 18 workers, according to WalletHub.

2nd Time Hostless

For the first time in 30 years, the Oscars show will go with no host. After the initial pick, Kevin Hart, bowed out of the role once the homophobic tweets he had made a decade ago resurfaced.

Youngest Oscar Winner

American actress Tatum O'Neal won Best Supporting Actress for "Paper Moon" (1974) when she was only 10 years old.

Oldest Oscar Winner

At the age of 82, Canadian actor Christopher Plummer became the oldest person to win an Academy Award for Best Actor in a supporting role for the film "Beginners" (2012).

Record Nominations for Best Actress

American actress Meryl Streep has been nominated a record 21 times, winning two Best Actress Oscars for "Sophie's Choice" (1983) and "The Iron Lady" (2012) and one Best Supporting actress for "Kramer vs. Kramer" (1980).

First Woman to Win Best Director

American director Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman in history to win the Best Director award for her film "The Hurt Locker" (2009).

Actor or Actress with the most Oscars

The actress with the most Oscars is American Katharine Hepburn who won a record four Best Actress Oscars for "On Golden Pond" (1982), "The Lion In Winter" (1969), "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" (1968) and "Morning Glory" (1934).

American Clint Eastwood is the male actor with the most Oscars, with a total of 4 trophies to his name, but he didn't win any for acting. He won two Oscars for Best Director and two Oscars for Best Picture for "Unforgiven"(1993) and "Million Dollar Baby" (2005).

Longest Oscar Winner

At 234 minutes, "Gone with the Wind" (1939) is the longest of all films to win the Best Picture award.
