China's Wang Yu cleared a personal best of 2.34 meters to take the men's high jump sivler at the final stop of the 2019 IAAF World Indoor Tour in Dusseldorf, Germany on Wednesday, improving the national indoor record by 0.01m.
The 27-year-old Asian Games champion leaped over 2.34m with his second attempt, beating the national record of 2.33 set by world silver medalist Zhang Guowei back in 2014. 2.34m is also Wang's best performance in both indoor and outdoor court as his best outdoor mark is 2.33m achieved in Beijing in 2013.
Wang and Japan's in-form Tobe Naoto both topped 2.34m and failed to conquer 2.36m. But Naoto, who set a national record of 2.35m eralier this month, edged out Wang to take the gold medal after countback. Luis Castro Ribera of Puerto Rico finished third at 2.25.
