"China always maintains the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, opposing external intervention in Venezuelan domestic affairs and calling for international society to create good conditions," Hua Chunying, a spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), said in a press briefing Thursday.
China supports efforts made by the Venezuelan government for national sovereignty, independence and stability, Hua added.
MOFA's comments came after Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Wednesday he was breaking diplomatic relations with the United States, after the Trump administration recognized opposition leader Juan Guaido as the South American country's interim president.
