The 2019 Run the Track will feature a total of 10,000 runners.
Registration for 2019 Run the Track starts today.
The race on January 1 allows participants to run around the Shanghai International Circuit in Jiading District. A single lap of the trap is 5.4 kilometers and 6,000 runners will compete in a single lap race. Another 4,000 will take part in a 21.6km, four-lap run.
Run the Track was first held in Shanghai in 2015. The idea came from the informal races held at Formula One circuits around the world in which drivers, team members and marshals compete.
The Shanghai International Circuit track is shaped like the Chinese character shang, meaning "up." Organizers claim the event will bring good luck for the coming year to those who take part.
Registration starts at 10am. Runners can log on to race website www.runthetrack.com or follow WeChat account "RunTheTrack." Places will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
Registration is 100 yuan (US$14.4) for the 5.4km run and 150 yuan for the 21.6km race.
A kids festival at the circuit this year will host 200 families with children aged from 5 to 10. The kids can Run the Track in the company of their parents and enjoy in New Year fun in the post race zone.
