Education and technology are key to tackling workforce challenges in Hong Kong, said Carrie Lam, chief executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) here on Saturday.

She made the remarks when discussing "the workforce of the future" with three other panelists at the APEC CEO Summit.

Lam said that challenges in Hong Kong workforce are that Hong Kong needs more people to work, particularly in the area of innovation and technology.

Hong Kong has introduced a tech talent scheme to attract more talent on innovation and technology, she said.

Technology is changing the world and the younger generation must be more adaptable, so that they are able to face changes and grab opportunities available for them, she noted.

Hong Kong is giving a real push in innovation and technology particularly in AI, robotics and health technology, she said.

The workforce of the future will be very multi-disciplinary and multi-professional, and Hong Kong has to prepare the younger generation for the future work environment, and education is the key to achieving this, she said.

The HKSAR government has put in a lot of efforts and resources in technology and innovation, she said.

Hong Kong remains very competitive and human resources play a pivotal role in Hong Kong's competitiveness, she added.
