Residents from Seongju, about 300 kilometers south of Seoul where the U.S.-backed Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system has been installed, protested on Friday outside the presidential Blue House against the controversial deployment of THAAD, which was completed on Thursday.

The demonstrators condemned the government for backpedaling on its promise and abusing its power with the deployment deal it struck with the U.S. last year. Protesters slammed the deployment process as illegal and said it was contrary to public opinion.

They also expressed determination to keep rallying against the system until it is dismantled.

The remaining four rocket launchers for the THAAD were deployed on Thursday morning in Seongju amid heavy protests and clashes between demonstrators and police.
