President Xi Jinping said Thursday that upholding world peace is a noble mission for the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China.[Special coverage]
"The PLA is the people's army. All its officers, men and women must bear in mind their responsibility of serving the people whole-heartedly," Xi said at a gathering to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
He urged the PLA to faithfully fulfill the sacred duty of protecting the nation's security and people's well-being, and carry out the noble mission of upholding world peace.
