PLA honor guards arrive at Moscow for Red Square parade

The guards of honor of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), who are scheduled to take part in Russia's military parade at the Red Square on May 9, has arrived at Moscow, according to the report from Xinhua News Agency.

The PLA honor guards, composed of 110 Chinese service members, arrived at the military airport in the suburban of Moscow on April 25, 2015. They then went to a military sanatorium to take a rest and prepared for the rehearsal of the military parade, according to Russian media.

Li Hui, Chinese ambassador to Russia, said that it is the first time for China to send troops to attend the Russian military parade at the Red Square, which fully demonstrating the rich content of the China-Russia strategic coordination and the sophisticated and special relations between China and Russia.

In fact, it is not the first overseas debut for the PLA honor guards. It has been reported that the PLA honor guards took part in their first official military parade abroad on September 17, 2010 in Mexico marking the 200th anniversary of the country's independence.

After that, the PLA honor guards can be seen in many overseas military parades including the 200th anniversary of Venezuelan Declaration of Independence and the commemoration of Mexico's independence in 2013.

Apart from China, the Indian military will also send a 75-member honor guards to participate in the Red Square military parade on May 9. "In fact, this is the first time for the Indian Army to take part in a foreign country's victory celebration", according to the New Indian Express.

It is learned that Russia has invited 16 countries to attend the Red Square military parade. At present, 10 countries accept the invitation and dispatch troops.

In addition, Russian media reported Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary General, plans to attend the celebration, which has not been confirmed by the UN press office.
