PLA political work conference concludes

The political work conference of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) concluded in the township of Gutian, a former revolutionary base of Shanghang County in southeast China's Fujian Province, on November 2, 2014.

The conference upheld the principle of "building the Party with ideas and building the army with politics" established at the Gutian Conference held in 1929, and studied to resolve the major practical issue of the Party in building the army both ideologically and politically with the spirit of reform and rectification.

Fan Changlong, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the CPC, and Xu Qiliang, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the CPC, participated in the conference and delivered speeches respectively.

Fan Changlong said in his speech that the political work conference decided to convene by CMC Chairman Xi Jinping is a historic meeting with landmark significance.

Fan Changlong stressed that we should persist in the Party's absolute leadership over the military, adhere to Chairman Xi's series of important speeches as the guide, and firmly and consciously safeguard and implement the system that the chairman of the Central Military Commission has overall responsibility for the commission. On this major issue of principle, the PLA and the Armed Police Force (APF) should have a clear attitude and resolute actions, and be absolutely loyal, absolutely pure and absolutely reliable.

Xu Qiliang said that the conference aimed to seek the root of the issue and the rectification atmosphere is dense. He stressed that the keynote for next year's political work is rectification and correction of styles of work and we should resolutely clean up the long-standing wrong doings in the military's ideological and political fields.

When chairing the closing ceremony of the conference, Zhang Yang, member of the CMC of the CPC and director of the General Political Department (GPD) of the PLA, stressed that we should seriously reflect on the discipline and law violations by former CMC Vice Chairman Xu Caihou. We should look for prominent problems existing in the units and in ourselves and thoroughly clear away the unfavorable influence of the case.

Members of the CMC of the CPC including Chang Wanquan, Fang Fenghui, Zhang Yang, Zhao Keshi, Zhang Youxia, Wu Shengli, Ma Xiaotian and Wei Fenghe attended the conference.
