The People's Liberation Army (PLA) has issued a revised regulation to audit military officers' spending more broadly, Xinhua learned on Thursday.

The latest move to detect graft was approved by Xi Jinping, chairman of the Central Military Commission, with the regulation jointly issued by PLA's General Staff Headquarters, the General Political Department, the General Logistics Department and the General Armament Department.

Li Qinghe, chief of the PLA's audit office, said areas to be audited now include spending of public funds, housing and use of public vehicles. The regulation makes clear that all military officers with economic responsibility will face auditing, and officers may not be promoted without first going through the process.

It also establishes a warning system for officers.

Li urged all units of the army, especially audit officers, to abide by the regulation so as to strengthen monitoring of corruption.
